Neck pain

Neck pain and tech neck

Your head weighs about 4.5 kg and balances on the small bones of the upper neck, the same bones that protect the brainstem. Hours looking down at screens push the head forward, multiply the load on the neck and, over years, flatten the natural curve. Chiropractic care restores movement to the neck and upper back, reduces stress on the nervous system and, with consistent care, can improve the curve itself.

Dr. Francisco Turelli explaining the science behind neck pain and cervical-curve correction

What we see most

  • Stiff, sore neck after a day at the desk or on the phone
  • Tension headaches that start at the base of the skull
  • Pain between the shoulder blades and tight upper traps
  • Reduced turning, especially when reversing the car
  • Tingling into the arm or hand
  • Neck pain after whiplash or a fall

Why the upper neck matters so much

The upper cervical spine has the densest concentration of movement sensors in the body and sits right where the vagus nerve, the main driver of the "rest and digest" system, exits the skull. When those joints lose motion the brain receives corrupted information and the nervous system stays on alert. That is why neck restriction so often comes with headaches, poor sleep and a jaw that never relaxes.

A 2022 review of case reports on cervical-curve correction reported an average 14° improvement in the curve and an 80% reduction in pain over about 16 weeks of care. We share this honestly: case reports are not trials, but the direction matches what we measure in the studio.

What care looks like

Posture photos, INSiGHT scans and a segment-by-segment exam of the neck at your first visit. Then specific, gentle adjustments (instrument techniques are available for those who prefer no manual adjusting of the neck), advice for your screens and desk, and re-checks so you can see the head position and the curve change.

We do not diagnose or treat diseases. We assess the spine and nervous system, adjust where we find restriction, and refer you to the right specialist whenever something needs another set of eyes.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to adjust the neck?

Neck adjustments at illumINNATE are specific and gentle, and we offer instrument techniques for people who prefer not to have a manual neck adjustment. Your history and exam decide what is appropriate for you.

Can a lost cervical curve be restored?

Research and our own progress photos show it can improve meaningfully with consistent care over several months. How much depends on how long the change has been there.

Will you crack my neck?

Only if that is the right technique for you and you are comfortable with it. Many neck adjustments use an instrument or very light force.

Can chiropractic help after whiplash?

Often yes, once anything that needs medical assessment has been ruled out. We look at movement, posture and nervous-system response and adapt care to your case.
